CANSURVIVE’s Monthly Talk- The Role of Music in Healing

Cansurvive Centre Malaysia Berhad (CANSURVIVE) organised a talk on The Role of Music in Healing on 19 October 2019 at the PJ Campus of Brickfields Asia College. The session was conducted by Mr Shankar Kandasamy, who heads the Bharata Natyam department at the Temples of Fine Arts, Malaysia. He is well-trained in multi-disciplines of Odissi, Kathak, Western Classical Ballet, contemporary dances and folk dances such from India and Malaysia’s Chinese and Malay dances. He holds a Masters in Dance from the Bharathidasan University and is currently pursuing his PhD with the Tanjore Tamil University. A total of 30 dance enthusiast attended this complementary talk. Mr Shankar explains that music may have several effects on human one of it being positive physical effect which can produce direct biological changes, such as reduced heart rates, blood pressure and cortisol levels. He further illustrates the statement that music is a fundamental attribute of the human species by proving that we human sing and hum; dance and bounce; regardless of whether in tune or not. The venue for the session was supported by The Make It Right Movement (MIRM). Cansurvive is a non-profit cancer charity organisation that aims to provide guidance and community support for cancer patients as well as their family and friends. It also strives to raise public awareness on the benefits of holistic, non-invasive cancer therapies, nutrition and diet, types of orthodox treatments, and access to such treatments.
